Great Dates Globe

It all started with mining and it really is still all about mining. Head to the Historic Old Dominion Mine Park to get some fresh air and take a self-guided tour of old mine property. Go hand in hand on this date and enjoy the view off the side of the hill. Seeing the pictures on the information boards throughout the park really made me think about what life was like back in the Old West. Standing on the very ground where work was bustling and being able to see and touch a lot of the actual equipment that was used for years. This date could be pretty fun! It's time to get creative with the camera and with recognizing what you wouldn't regularly recognize or pay attention to.  Together you will work on a scavenger hunt for any and all reflections of yourself. Reflections in windows, on the side of a shiny car, in water, and what else? Snap pictures of the reflections you find. Reflections are everywhere. Get creative and be outgoing and adventurous with this. Laugh and talk with your best friend. So, where am I going with this? Work together to reflect on the best dates and times you have had together while married and before you were married. Are there things that you used to love doing as a couple and need to start up again? Is there something you should do so that you can reflect back on it in the future? Think of the memories you have made and resolve to make new memories. Maybe even start a list! This is a great morning date and then you could go grab some breakfast burros from your favo...

Photography is a big deal these days. There are so many professional photographers; a lot of them just put in time and effort into practicing to be able to do what they do. Today/tonight, be the photographers and be the models. Go around town or wherever you think would be a great back drop and photograph your spouse. Work on your skills and enjoy getting your spouse to smile or getting a moody shot of them. Marriage Reconnect Are there any places in town that are special for the two of you, or either one of you? See if you can get a picture of yourself in front of the first place you lived in Globe, a shot in front of your current home, your favorite store, or even something funny. Here is a 'model' picture of me by the car that we had when we were first married.  Behind is our first apartment. I was pretending to be a car model as we took  pictures of it so we could sell it.

You live in an old, Arizona ghost/mining town. This town is full of rich history and the history is alive! Keep up on the schedules of different tours and happenings in Globe. This would be a great date. There are jail tours, tours of the old courthouse building (currently the Post Office), and Cemetery Tours.    There are exciting presentations happening at different times throughout the year that will take you back to a time once alive in Globe. There were outlaws and many other exciting things happening. Marriage Reconnect Depending on what community tour or activity you participate in, it will be a great opportunity to be with your honey. There are really great ghost stories in all the tours, which leaves a lot to discuss. These kinds of dates are much more interactive than watching a movie together.

Throughout my time in Globe I have noticed varying foot bridges and stairs in the old town area, over washes and up hill sides. Well, follow the directions at this link so that you can trek the "trails" that were once used for daily travel to and from work, school, and other activities in the old mining town of Globe.  This is a chance to look at your surroundings in a different way and from a different view..don't forget to hold hands! Marriage Reconnect Talk about and analyze your physical touch with your spouse. It is so important to be physically connected in our day to day coming and goings. Do you kiss each other throughout the day? Do you hug before one of you leaves the house? Set a goal that will increase your physical touch and see what difference it can make in your love connection.

Library Date!  You probably wouldn't think of a library date--that's so college. But seriously, the local library can be loads of fun and here you have two choices--Globe or Miami Library. The Miami Library is actually a historic building; it was the Miami High School Gym and has a lot of memorabilia and history within...they probably have a few history books too.  😆 Marriage Reconnect Play a game at the library. Of course, keep it within reason and library appropriate...ssshhhh! Examples: Dictionary War--each of you get a dictionary. You can find outrageous words and see if the other knows what they mean or find words to describe each other. Battle it out! Conversations completely from the lines on the page. You can use regular books or poetry books. Have a conversation...using only lines from the book you chose.  Find a movie to check out and head home for a cuddly afternoon. Read children stories to each other. Practice your expressive reading abi...

This date could easily go on for days and days in the Globe-Miami area! I suggest deciding on either Miami or Globe as to not get too overwhelmed or frustrated that you don't make it to everything. As you saunter through the different antique stores, enjoy the unique things from past eras and talk about what life would have been like for you as a couple if it were the 20's, 40's, 60's, etc. Marriage Reconnect Reminisce on what could have been and think about things that you could do now that are from different decades...things that shouldn't have gotten lost in time. Try to implement some things into your life. Dress up a little more for each other..wear lipstick and kiss that man on the cheek! Find ways in which you can simplify your lives so that there will be more time for each other.

Head to the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts ---They have great local theatre productions featuring talent from all ages. Enjoy the atmosphere in the old courthouse building, watching acts on the second floor stage.  Follow CVCA on Facebook for an update on all events. Marriage Reconnect Afterwards, discuss what you saw, heard, and felt. Get to know your spouse through the arts. What moves them? Learn what they appreciate and understand their feelings on different subjects. It is important for us to be connected and vulnerable in different ways. You may learn something new about each other through the conversation you have on reviewing the production. 

This date is all about flirting, dressing up, thinking of the other, chivalry, and really all the things. Start the day being flirtatious. Ideas: write a love note on the bathroom mirror  make breakfast for the other  leave a note in his lunch  kiss before work bring home flowers dress up let her get ready for the date kid free! Pick her up--ring the door bell! wear perfume open her door Wherever you decide to eat, get comfortable. Don't rush through this meal (like we all tend to do). Enjoy appetizers, entrees, and dessert. Don't be afraid of extravagance. Marriage Reconnect This breaks you out of the habit of only doing certain things when occasion calls for it. You can "celebrate" when there is "nothing" to celebrate. Spice up your date with this game. It's time to be lip locked. Is it possible to kiss your husband or wife too much? No, just no. That is not even a question. At the start of your date, make some rules. You need a list of trigger words and topics that if brought up will = kisses. You want there to be a lot of random kissing! PDA please! Living in Globe, there are many options for Mexican eateries and there is often talk about what joint is the  best. Tonight, be food critics. Burger House seems to be one of the top rated places in the area. Who would have thought a 'burger house' would be the best Mexican food? My husband talked this place up, having burros from here a few times. I brushed it off, because I love Mexican food, but Mexican food is Mexican food. Then one morning, for a date, my husband got us some burros from here and in my critical opinion....you just have to taste for yourself!.... Marriage Reconnect Be total food critics on this date. Describe as best you can, details are very important, the flavor, texture, and look of the food you ordered. Enjoy sharing this meal together. Put phones and other distractions aside and be fully present, in the moment. There are so many things taking our time and attention from each other--here is an opportunity to be intentional with where you focu...

Run to the far end of town (ok, you can drive) on a weekend and go to the Globe Park n' Swap. Make a game of it and set a limit for each other, say $10? Now you can decide if you want to find things you actually need/want or weird things...but see which of you can be the best bargain finder and/or haggler! Enjoy the competition. Often times we don't reflect on the things that we have seen, done, or learned in a week--not recognizing that we are becoming better, smarter, and stronger. You may have to dig through your mind on this one, but it doesn't have to be extraordinary. This is another way to bond with your spouse; possibly they will have questions about the thing you shared or maybe you will have something come up that you both want to learn more about.

Let's critique things...the right things. It is so easy, as the years and days go by, to critique our spouses...on everything and nothing. I know I have gone overboard, even if just in my mind. Head to the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts and be art critics. There are so many different pieces and styles of art in the gallery. As you walk around this historic building, take in the colors and textures that have been laid out for your viewing. If you want to be really into it (why not?), bring your clip boards and pens to keep lists of what your favorites are/are not and what stood out to you. Compare notes at the end or throughout your art walk. Head down Broad Street and stop in to Noel's Sweets and Gifts to enjoy an ice cream treat. Marriage Reconnect You have probably heard of having a gratitude journal that you write in daily. Well, start a journal where you write each day something you are grateful for about your spouse. You can call it your Spousitude journ...

Local sporting events can be a really great way to get out and enjoy some community excitement. For this date, check out the schedule for the High School or Middle School sports and head to a game! Going to a Globe-Miami Rival game would be even more of a riot than your typical Friday night game. Marriage Reconnect Option 1 for sport lovers: Talk about the sports you played---teammates, friends made, favorite sport, etc.  What sport or activity would you and your spouse like to get into together? Are there local teams or clubs you could join? Option 2 for lovers of other things: What activity do you enjoy being involved in? If you have a child that really wants to get into a sport--how are you going to support them in it, especially if it is far from your thing? (Globe Tigers!)

Oh, you didn't know there was a place to bowl in the Globe area? Well, there isn't really in the traditional sense, but this date gets you outside and doing something a little different. Some prep work is needed.  Need: A bowling ball (or 2)----these can be found at pretty much any thrift store Glow sticks 10 similar sized containers filled with water (water bottles, old soda bottles, Gatorade bottles....) great shoes (really this could just be a great addition----everyone where their "best bowling shoes") Little Caesars pizza Head to the Community Center Park or anywhere else with a stretch of flat concrete that can act as your bowling lane. Put a glow stick in each bottle and then use the rest of the glow sticks to line the sides of the "alley".  The rest is really up to you......can you even hit any of the "pins"?  Of course you will have to take turns setting up pins and bowling.  Enjoy your pizza! For this day date head to the Chamber of Commerce in person and say, "We only have one day to spend in the area, what should we see? Anything unique/off the beaten path?" Follow the advice and spend the day looking at the town/community with new eyes. Marriage Reconnect Since you are in a new place, pretend you are with a new person. This could be a first date...be playful. Are you confident enough to hold hands on the first date? How fun to take this person on a day date/excursion to this historic mining town. Enjoy this "fresh" relationship and see where the day takes you!

There are some great, historic inns here in downtown Globe. The Chrysocolla Inn . This Inn was once a boarding house during the turn of the century, as Globe was booming. Another unique, local inn is the Noftsger Hill Inn. This inn was once a school, therefore it boasts of spacious rooms with sitting areas and wonderful historic memorabilia.  Marriage Reconnect Enjoy your own marriage retreat here in this historic community. Just enjoy relaxing together: be it reading side by side or together on a shaded porch or garden area, learning about mining history or ghost stories, just be present and keep away from the usual topics of kids, house, work, chores, etc. 

STEM Fest comes around every year at the end of April. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This would be a unique date to take your spouse on. This is a great way to get out in the community on a Saturday and have fun! There is seriously something fun for all ages.  Once you're finished up here, head to Miami and stop in at Soda Pops--Old Fashioned Soda Fountain. The old time feel here is something to relish in! Marriage Reconnect Try something new--maybe enter the 5K Run together and cheer each other on--whoever is more of a runner/athlete than the other...hold back if you need to and stick with your cute partner. It will be fun to accomplish something together.

Nest down at the Copper Hen for some unique cuisine. The atmosphere is fun and the smells coming from the kitchen will make it hard to decide on what to order. There is often live music to enjoy while you experience the flavor blasts occurring in your mouth. Music is the second focus of this date night.  Marriage Reconnect    Do you and your spouse have a special song? A wedding song? Does it represent you well? Whether you do or don't, find a theme song for your relationship.  Maybe share some of your favorite music from times past. Do you have similar music tastes?  Have fun listening to different tracks and finding something that can be your go to song. Share your favorite songs from high school and middle school. This could be interesting!

NurdBerger is a great burger joint and it screams nerd! Sometimes we just need to be as confident as a nerd and that is what this date is about. How confident can you be as a couple? What is a nerdy movie or show that the two of you can agree on? Featured at the Nurdberger Cafe is Lord of The Rings, Star Wars, Pokemon, and more. The possibilities are endless. Start your date by dressing up in some way--related to something nerdy. This date is bound to bring out some laughs and you may relish in the attention or hurry home from embarrassment. Get into character and enjoy some good food! Finish the date at home watching one of your favorite nerdy movies.
