Disc Golf

Image
At Old Dominion Mine Park you can find a Disc Golf course right across from the Playground. Make use of this great space and throw some Frisbees!  Just try not to send them soaring to the  highway below! Marriage Reconnect A great way to strengthen any relationship is to learn something together. If you can throw a Frisbee, or even if you can't (your spouse can teach you!) Check out some details on how to play Disc Golf.   A simple tutorial on the different discs used in the sport Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to chat with each other about anything. Dates are about making connections and when married it is often about reconnecting. Enjoy this laid back time to share things that have been going on in your lives.

Old Dominion Historic Mine Tour

Image
It all started with mining and it really is still all about mining. Head to the Historic Old Dominion Mine Park to get some fresh air and take a self-guided tour of old mine property. Go hand in hand on this date and enjoy the view off the side of the hill. Seeing the pictures on the information boards throughout the park really made me think about what life was like back in the Old West. Standing on the very ground where work was bustling and being able to see and touch a lot of the actual equipment that was used for years. Marriage Reconnect After you do all the exploring and learning about mining and the old Globe life, change focus to your own work life. Are you on track to where you want to be?  Talk about the dreams and goals you both have and look back on how far you have come while married. Times when we have discussed how we got to where we are, we have been humbled and also seen how our relationship has developed along the way. Day in and day out work i...

Reflections

Image
This date could be pretty fun! It's time to get creative with the camera and with recognizing what you wouldn't regularly recognize or pay attention to.  Together you will work on a scavenger hunt for any and all reflections of yourself. Reflections in windows, on the side of a shiny car, in water, and what else? Snap pictures of the reflections you find. Reflections are everywhere. Get creative and be outgoing and adventurous with this. Laugh and talk with your best friend. So, where am I going with this? Work together to reflect on the best dates and times you have had together while married and before you were married. Are there things that you used to love doing as a couple and need to start up again? Is there something you should do so that you can reflect back on it in the future? Think of the memories you have made and resolve to make new memories. Maybe even start a list! This is a great morning date and then you could go grab some breakfast burros from your favo...

Well, Shoot!

Image
Taking the guns out to sight in or just to work on your aim is a great date for you and your spouse. Get another couple to double with you for this one and get on teams. It could be girls against boys or team up with your honey. This is one of those activities that is just about getting out, doing something different, and having opportunities to talk and laugh!  It is what you make of it!

Litter Lifters

Image
Time to pick up some garbage. You could definitely contact the city  to find out about any clean up days that may be scheduled to join in on, but don't hesitate to get out and help beautify the community. Throughout the week before your date, take note of areas around town that seem to need some extra care, i.e. along the highway. Get out with your spouse, hats and sunscreen are advised, and clean up the area. Pick up trash, rake, whatever is going to help make the area look better than how you found it. Also at the above link is a list of the different parks in the community, which would all be great alternate, more secluded choices for litter lifting. Marriage Reconnect Since you are getting rid of unnecessary garbage physically, view the following video and talk about what you (yourself) can get rid of in the relationship. It is not time for pointing fingers, but to do some self-reflection. Take this time to apologize if you need to and resolve to put into practice...

Historic Downtown Stroll

Image
Throughout my time in Globe I have noticed varying foot bridges and stairs in the old town area, over washes and up hill sides. Well, follow the directions at this link so that you can trek the "trails" that were once used for daily travel to and from work, school, and other activities in the old mining town of Globe.  This is a chance to look at your surroundings in a different way and from a different view..don't forget to hold hands! Marriage Reconnect Talk about and analyze your physical touch with your spouse. It is so important to be physically connected in our day to day coming and goings. Do you kiss each other throughout the day? Do you hug before one of you leaves the house? Set a goal that will increase your physical touch and see what difference it can make in your love connection.

Spice up your date with this game. It's time to be lip locked. Is it possible to kiss your husband or wife too much? No, just no. That is not even a question. At the start of your date, make some rules. You need a list of trigger words and topics that if brought up will = kisses. You want there to be a lot of random kissing! PDA please! Some time during your date play the following game: You need to have a full conversation without your lips parting. So talk and kiss at the same time. You're Welcome!

A Taste of the Best

Image
Living in Globe, there are many options for Mexican eateries and there is often talk about what joint is the  best. Tonight, be food critics. Burger House seems to be one of the top rated places in the area. Who would have thought a 'burger house' would be the best Mexican food? My husband talked this place up, having burros from here a few times. I brushed it off, because I love Mexican food, but Mexican food is Mexican food. Then one morning, for a date, my husband got us some burros from here and in my critical opinion....you just have to taste for yourself!.... Marriage Reconnect Be total food critics on this date. Describe as best you can, details are very important, the flavor, texture, and look of the food you ordered. Enjoy sharing this meal together. Put phones and other distractions aside and be fully present, in the moment. There are so many things taking our time and attention from each other--here is an opportunity to be intentional with where you focu...

Swap Meet!

Image
Run to the far end of town (ok, you can drive) on a weekend and go to the Globe Park n' Swap. Make a game of it and set a limit for each other, say $10? Now you can decide if you want to find things you actually need/want or weird things...but see which of you can be the best bargain finder and/or haggler! Enjoy the competition. Marriage Reconnect Share with each other something you learned in the past week. Often times we don't reflect on the things that we have seen, done, or learned in a week--not recognizing that we are becoming better, smarter, and stronger. You may have to dig through your mind on this one, but it doesn't have to be extraordinary. This is another way to bond with your spouse; possibly they will have questions about the thing you shared or maybe you will have something come up that you both want to learn more about.

Do You Have an Eye for Art?

Image
Let's critique things...the right things. It is so easy, as the years and days go by, to critique our spouses...on everything and nothing. I know I have gone overboard, even if just in my mind. Head to the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts and be art critics. There are so many different pieces and styles of art in the gallery. As you walk around this historic building, take in the colors and textures that have been laid out for your viewing. If you want to be really into it (why not?), bring your clip boards and pens to keep lists of what your favorites are/are not and what stood out to you. Compare notes at the end or throughout your art walk. Head down Broad Street and stop in to Noel's Sweets and Gifts to enjoy an ice cream treat. Marriage Reconnect You have probably heard of having a gratitude journal that you write in daily. Well, start a journal where you write each day something you are grateful for about your spouse. You can call it your Spousitude journ...

Tonto National Monument

Image
There is so much rich history in Arizona, but to be noted, right here in the Globe area. Take a drive over to Roosevelt and explore the ruins at Tonto National Monument.   The view from the lower cliff dwelling is amazing as it overlooks Roosevelt Lake and the beautiful Arizona desert landscape. Check out the website to decide when to visit. There are often special event days at the park with free entry and other unique activities and/or presentations. Marriage Reconnect Build on the power of positivity. Throughout this date both of you share things you are grateful for in regards to the other or really anything in life. This can bring back great memories and help you and your spouse recognize the joy there is all around you.

Go Fly a Kite!

Image
Seriously! There are some great windy days in the Globe area if you get up on the right hill. Head to a park and work on your kite flying skills together. Marriage Reconnect   Learn about your spouse's childhood. Ask all the questions.  What was your favorite toy? Did you like reading? When did you learn to ride a bike and who taught you? Did you take swimming lessons? what are your favorite memories of one on one time with each of your parents? etc! Discuss what memories you want to make with/for your children. It can be fun to recreate memories for our children that were special to us. This date can help you and your spouse to reconnect in a fun way, bringing a focus back to fun things that you can add to your busy lives.

Favorite Reads!

Image
Time to start a book club with your best friend---spouse! Together, decide on a book possibly from one of your childhoods or look up classics to choose from. This is a great date night activity, because you can continue reading this book for a few evenings, while enjoying popcorn and snuggles in bed or on the couch. If the book was made into a movie, well there is your next date night! Talk about the differences in the book vs. movie. Marriage Reconnect By reading together you can discuss many different topics that come up throughout the story and get to know your spouse even better. Book Suggestions: 1.       The Series of Unfortunate Events, Laddie: A True Blue Story, Where the Red Fern Grows, Little Britches (and accompanying sequels)

Great Views

Image
A date can take place at any time during the day. Start this date early so you can enjoy a sunrise together at Round Mountain Park. Hike up to the Flag pole for a great view of a perfect Arizona sunrise. (Watch out for snakes!) Of course, breakfast is an important part of this date. Two great options: Bring breakfast along to enjoy on the trail or at the flag pole. Pack things like yogurt, apples, bananas, hard boiled eggs, juice, and muffins. Another fantastic option would be to drive downtown and enjoy a wonderfully cooked breakfast at La Luz Del Dia . Tables fill fast in this little downtown cafe for a reason! Marriage Reconnect:   Now, this is a theme date. Do you know the song, "My Front Porch Looking In" by Lonestar? Play this song while on your hike if you have internet access or before leaving for the date. Each of you share what your favorite views of the other are. These can be silly and/or sentimental and will remind you of how much you love each oth...
