Healthy Marriage Movie Guide--- Safe Haven
è Katie’s
husband is very consumed with his job. He is a detective, and this is a high
stress job. How do you deal with your stress? How do you help each other to
decompress? What healthy ways can you think of that help to alleviate stress?
è Once
Katie finds Southport, she often looks out at the water, enjoying the serene
feel of the ocean. What change of scenery would you enjoy together?
è As
Katie is walking home with Jo, they are enjoying simple pleasures like the
light coming through the trees. Life gets busy, but in this community, it is a
bit of a slow-down. Do you live a busy life or a slower pace? What do you enjoy
about your pace of life?
è Alex
gives Katie and her paint a ride home. As he leaves and drives back into town,
Katie stands watching and pondering his kindness. She is very guarded. How do
you allow your spouse to help you, even when you have “got everything under
control”?
è Katie
lets her guard down and feel safe around the people in the community of
Southport. Katie calls her neighbor and leaves a message, “I know I should have
called a long time ago. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve ended up
somewhere safe”. How does your spouse help you to feel safe, special, and
important?
è “Usually
when somebody does something nice for you, you just say thank you”. Do either
of you let pride rule your interactions? In what ways can you improve on just
being grateful for the efforts of the other?
è “It
looked like this. Just a clean, empty canvas”. Katie and Alex are talking while
at the beach. He was asking her if she was going to stay, why she chose to be
in Southport, etc. Have you had new starts in your marriage, moved anywhere
new? How did it work out?
è Alex
is working up to asking Katie to go canoeing with him. His uncle gives him a
bit of a nudge. Do you go on enough dates with your spouse? How can you put
forth more effort in dating each other?
è Those arthritic knees know what they are
“screaming” about. It began to rain while canoeing and Alex quickly switches up
plans to be able to make the best out of the situation. When have plans not
gone as planned in your marriage? How have you made the best of it?
è Spontaneous
dancing after dinner in a small café/fishing shop...it’s romantic, right? What
are your favorite spontaneous past times? Do you still do fun and silly things
together?
è Alex’s
wife wrote special letters to her children for events that would come in their
lives. While Alex is looking at these late at night, his son Josh is upset that
Dad is in his Mom’s special place. How do you and your spouse work as a team?
è Alex
is talking with the Sheriff about the 4th of July firework show and
happens to look at the bulletin board. He sees a wanted ad for Katie…Erin! He
does not go to her and ask about it, he just gets angry and tells her to leave.
What problems can be avoided if we wait and listen to our spouse instead of
assuming things or hearing things from another source?
è Katie/Erin’s
husband did not treat her right, but she met Alex who actually cared for her
and was gentle. What qualities does your spouse possess that create a safe
haven?
